Maintain Long-Term Health: Buy Omega 3 Capsules

July 26th, 2010

There has been a lot of attention paid to omega 3 in the recent years. It has been found that the typical North American diet is deficient in this essential fatty acid and that this deficiency can lead to many health issues including acne, heart disease, kidney disease, and fatigue. There are several things that should be remembered when shopping to buy omega 3 capsules.

The foremost thing to remember is that omega 3 is a fragile compound that will become rancid when exposed to heat or light. This also causes the molecule to become ineffective. It is for this reason that many producers have refined their production processes as to best protect the molecules from damage. This may involve using a cold-pressing process. It’s a good idea to take note of the production process by each producer and choose the one that makes the best quality guarantee.

There are also several types of omega 3 to choose from. Some come primarily from fish oil, others from flax seed, and still others from a variety of sea animals including seal. Flax seed is a good choice if you are concerned over mercury content in sea creatures. Be sure you are getting the benefits of flax seed by choosing a cold pressed liquid in an opaque bottle and storing it in the refrigerator.

Mercury content in fish oils have been a concern that has been getting some media attention. More than 95% of the capsules on the market, however, have less than the maximum allowable mercury content as deemed by the Food and Drug Administration. The ones that have too much were all made in China and only contain slightly more than the recommended amount.

It’s also a good idea to get a capsule that does not contain omega 6 in addition to the omega 3. Omega 6 and omega 3 should be contained in the diet in a balanced amount, however, our diets contain an abundance of omega 6 already and hardly any omega 3. It is for this reason that supplements containing omega 6 as well will be less effective in maintaining the proper balance.

Several foods have been introduced to the market recently that claim to contain omega 3 however the amounts that are found in these foods (eg. Eggs, margarine, breakfast bars) are trace and do not add up to be nearly the amount required for intake. In addition, due to the fragility of the compound, if the food is fried in any manner, the omega 3 is destroyed.

Omega 3 supplements are therefore a great addition to your daily routine in order to attain maximum health. Natural sourced nutrients in food are always preferred but the nature of our culture makes this very close to impossible.

For anyone looking for fish oil and the new omega 3 skin benefits, you should get what we have for you. You should buy omega 3 capsules. We have tons in our store and you’re only a click away from being there.

The United States Armed Forces are being encouraged to add fish oils to their diets to try to counteract incidents of depression associated with being deployed. There is also evidence that suggest that these are of great importance in lessening the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

In the athletic realm, these supplements are known to enhance the endurance of athletes. Studies have shown that lung capacity increases greatly when proper levels of the fatty acids are present in the system. One group of wrestlers showed a 50% increase in lung function after taking the supplement for 4 weeks. There will be future studies done in this arena for a more comprehensive look at the benefits.

High PCB levels have been found in some brands of fish oil, so doing some investigation to make sure that the supplement is pure and truly good for you will be important. How Do You Get More Omega 3 Fatty Acids In Your Diet If Fish Is Contaminated With Mercury?

December 8th, 2009

The health benefits of omega3 essential fatty acids are becoming more and more mainstream, and gradually the population is becoming aware that most of us are deficient in their Omega3 intake and that increasing our intake of essential fatty acids may help improve a number of health outcomes for all of us. Omega3 fatty acids are found in fish oil and this obviously comes from fish, however fish is generally contaminated with Mercury. So what do you do increase your intake of healthy fats if the source, namely fish, is contaminated with Mercury?

A new study published this year has shed some light on the Mercury contamination of fish. The study examined Mercury contamination of fish in the North Pacific and found that levels of Mercury in that ocean had increased by 30 percent over the last 10 years.

Not only that but it also concluded that around 40 percent of all Mercury exposure of people in the US came from tuna consumption from tuna caught in the Pacific.

This is seriously worrying, because you do not want to be eating too much Mercury. It is a neurotoxin and it has serious health implications for adults, but in particular for the fetus and for infants.

Atmospheric production of Mercury as well as Mercury leakage from Asia were the major ways that it was found that Mercury made its way into the oceans. It is found in the oceans as methylmercury, and is found in our tuna because it starts at the bottom of the food chain and works it’s way up right up to fish at the top of the food chain like shark and tuna. And we eat shark and tuna.

So the conundrum for anyone that understands the importance of increasing their intake of omega3 fatty acids, and who also understands that the vast majority of our population is deficient in Omega3 fats, is that by increasing your intake of fish to increase your intake of Omega3 fats you are also increasing your intake of Mercury.

Fish is expensive and is also a declining resource. Is there a better way of increasing your intake of essential fatty acids other than eating expensive fish? Yes there is.

A much better way that is both more cost-effective and safer than eating more fish is by daily supplementation with omega3 supplements. These can be called fish oil supplements, and the best fish oil supplements are much more cost-effective than eating fish and are also free of contamination with Mercury. Large numbers of people now recognize this and the sales of omega3 supplements are increasing faster than any other nutritional supplement in history.

Of course if you like fish and wish to increase your intake of omega3 then you can do so by eating more fish, but this is expensive and increases your intake of Mercury. That’s fine if you understand this, however if you merely wish to increase your dietary intake of essential fatty acids without the cost or the risk of Mercury contamination omega3 supplements offer a safe and cost-effective way to do so.

But it’s worth saying that there are big variations between the different brands of omega 3 supplements, with the best fish oil capsules having more than 2 1/2 times as much omega 3 fats as average fish oil supplements.

If you’d like to find out how to compare the different omega3 supplements available then you can do so on my website.

Can You Help Prevent Bowel Cancer Taking Fish Oil Tablets?

November 30th, 2009

There are 2 important essential fatty acids that we need in our diet called DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), and these are found in fish oil and in fish oil tablets. These are called omega 3 essential fatty acids and over the last 4 decades there are many studies which have established the health benefits of increasing our intake of omega 3 fatty acids. These benefits include heart health benefits, prostate cancer prevention and breast cancer prevention, and now extend to helping to prevent bowel cancer.

A study in Scotland on the benefits of increasing your intake of Omega3 fats found that more DHA and EPA in your diet can help to reduce your risk of colorectal cancer by up to around 40 percent. The study specifically noted that increasing intakes of DHA and EPA achieved this result, but that increasing the intake of ALA (alpha-linolenic acid), a plant-based Omega 3 fat, did not produce the same result.

The researchers found clear evidence that those with the highest intake of fish had a lower risk of bowel cancer and that those with a lower intake of fish had a higher risk of colon cancer.

A study in the Netherlands combined the results of a range of other studies on the link between Omega 3 and bowel cancer.– studies were compared and the conclusion was that there was a clear relationship between eating more fish and lowering the risk of colon cancer. In fact the researchers concluded that eating one meal of fish per week reduced the risk of bowel cancer by around 4 percent, and that each fish meal rediced the risk of colon cancer by another 4 percent.

We eat too little fish in the US, and in particular we eat too little fish to achieve these results in helping to prevent colon cancer.

Of course increasing your intake of fish oil is only a part of an overall strategy to reduce your risk of bowel cancer, but increasing Omega3 intake also offers a wide range of other health benefits including reducing a range of heart problems including heart attack.

So how do you increase your intake of omega 3 essential fatty acids? Fish is very expensive and is also generally contaminated with mercury and other toxins and the FDA tells us not to eat too much for this reason. These 2 facts combined mean that most of us eat way too little fish, and increasing our intake is risky and expensive.

However there are excellent fishoil tablets available which overcome these problems. Fish oil tablets are small capsules containing omega 3 fatty acids and the best fish oil tablets are completely contamination free and are much more cost-effective to be taken daily than increasing your intake of fish.

However not all all fish oil supplements are as good as others, and you need to be careful comparing one with another because there are wide variations in the amounts of the active ingredients found in the different brands. You cannot directly compare the price of fish oil tablets alone.

So it would seem that the evidence is getting stronger of the health benefits of increasing your intake of Omega3 fats, including in helping to prevent bowel cancer. Clearly all of us should be eating more fish or, more conveniently and more cheaply, taking daily omega 3 supplements by way of fish oil tablets.

I have known this for some time and take fish oil tablets every day. To find out which ones visit my website.

Why Should You Be Taking Fish Oil Pills Every Day?

November 26th, 2009

Fish oil pills are big business. In fact sales of fish oil pills, or what can be known as Omega 3 capsules or even as omega 3 supplements, are growing faster than any other nutritional supplement in history. Lets have a look at why and consider whether you should also be taking daily supplements of omega 3.

Fish oil contains 2 essential fatty acids called DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and these are good fats. You may have heard that fat in your diet is bad for you but that is not necessarily true. Some fat in your diet is good for you.

There are some bad fats, in particular saturated fat which is primarily found in animal products such as red meat and chicken. However there are also good fats which are extremely important to your health. The omega 3 fatty acids called essential fatty acids are extremely important to your health and are not manufactured in your body. Therefore the only way you can get Omega 3 fatty acids into you is by taking fish oil pills, or eating a lot of fish.

Studies have shown that way too many of us, in fact almost all of us in the US, have too little omega 3 fatty acids in our diet. Studies of populations in countries where fish and seafood are important in the diet show that these people have much better heart health than we do and the studies show that this is a result of their superior intake of fish.

The health benefits from increasing our intake of Omega3 fats go on and on and include many benefits to the heart. The American Heart Association, for this reason, tells us that we should have a minimum intake of DHA and EPA every week and that we should do this by eating more fish or by a daily regime of fish oil pills.

The heart health benefits of Omega3 fats include a reduced risk of death. This is a result of better heart health, lower blood pressure, lower triglycerides and less plaque in our arteries. And it doesn’t stop there. Higher intakes of Omega3 fats improve brain function and memory, reduce the incidence and effects of inflammatory diseases such as arthritis and reduce the risks of blindness by macular degeneration in older age, and more.

There is also ample evidence that pregnant women should be taking Omega 3 supplements because DHA and EPA, and in particular DHA, is an essential part of brain development and that if pregnant women are DHA deficient this can negatively affect the brain development of the fetus. Equally it is important for breastfeeding women to supplement with DHA and EPA because these become available to the infant through the breastmilk, and are important to the infant for the same reason. Studies show that children with an adequate supply of Omega3 fats through their developmental years do better on IQ tests.

It is quite clear that we need more DHA and EPA in our diets, but how? Of course we can all eat more fish but fish is very expensive and only certain types of fish, namely oily fish, have high levels of Omega3 fats. Fish is generally contaminated with toxins and the FDA tells us to limit our intake of fish for this reason.

Fish oil pills offer the ideal answer. These are small capsules of fish oil which are simple to take everyday, and although children may struggle taking them it is a simple matter to cut the top off and poor the oil onto their food. The very best fish oil pills are free of contamination and are extremely cost-effective to take daily.

However the best fish oil pills contain far more DHA, the most important Omega 3 fat, than the worst and for this reason it is difficult to compare the different omega 3 supplements available.

I supplement my diet, and the diet of my family, with Omega3 supplements every day. I use what I consider to be by far the best fish oil pills on the market. To find out which these are visit my website.

Is It Possible to Lower Triglycerides Taking Omega 3 Supplements?

November 26th, 2009

It is now firmly established that there is a wide range of heart health benefits to increasing the amount of omega 3 essential fats (DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid)) in your diet. One of these important heart benefits, for anyone with high triglycerides, is that increasing your intake of DHA and EPA can help lower triglycerides.

Research has established that almost all of us have levels of Omega3 fats that are too low. Omega 3 fats are found in fish oil and the research also shows that by increasing our intake of fish oil in our diet by way of supplementation we also attract a range of heart and other health benefits.

Some of the most important benefits from fish oil supplementation include a reduction in blood pressure, a reduction in the growth of plaque in the arteries and a reduction in the risk of fatal heart attack. And this now includes lowering triglycerides.

Triglycerides are a form of fat that can be manufactured in the body from the food you eat and exist in the blood. Having high triglycerides increases the risk of blood clots and can also lead to a lowering of your HDL (good) cholesterol. Basically high triglycerides are linked to coronary artery disease. And high triglycerides can also be a risk factor in some other diseases, for example diabetes.

A diet with high levels of saturated fat intake can increase triglyceride levels as can a diet of high sugar foods. Risk factors also include being overweight and drinking too much alcohol.

So it would seem clear that lowering triglycerides, if you have a problem with a higher than normal triglyceride level, is a good thing.

There’s a number of things that help lower triglycerides. These include reducing the amount of saturated fat in your diet, exercising more, eating less sugary foods, losing weight and reducing alcohol intake.

But it is now clear from the research that increasing your intake of omega 3 essential fatty acids by way of fish oil supplementation is an important part of a strategy to help lower triglycerides.

For example a statement published on the website of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition concludes that “omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil decreased serum triglyceride concentrations by 25% to 30%,” and “A dose-response relationship exists between omega-3 fatty acid intake and triglyceride lowering”.

So it is now clear that improving your level of intake of omega 3 essential fatty acids can help lower triglycerides and because this is now clearly established the American Heart Association tells people with high triglycerides to maintain a level of intake of 2 to 4 grams per day of DHA and EPA by way of fish oil supplements under the care of a physician.

Many people in our society suffer from higher than recommended triglyceride levels. This then is good news for them, providing them with another weapon in the arsenal to help lower triglycerides.

And as well as helping to lower triglycerides increasing Omega3 intake offers you a wide range of other health and heart benefits.

Of course it is simple to eat more fish but unfortunately fish is contaminated with mercury and is generally very expensive. There are excellent fish oil supplements available which are not contaminated and which can be taken daily very cost effectively. Note however that not all fish oil supplements are of high quality.

Visit my website to find out how to compare the various fish oil supplements available, (and which ones I take myself).

DHA And Fish Oil. Breastfeeding Mothers Need More Of Both.

November 23rd, 2009

There are now clearly established benefits to increasing our intake of essential fatty acids known as omega 3 fats, including the most important called DHA. Studies show that over 90 percent of Americans have dietary intake levels of Omega3 fats that are way too low and this can be improved by daily supplementation with capsules of fish oil. Breastfeeding mothers are no exception and they now have more powerful reasons than ever to undertake fish oil supplementation. One of the most important breastfeeding tips to give to any new mother is to start taking Omega 3 capsules to increase the benefits of breastfeeding to her infant.

It is now known that growing fetuses have a high demand for both DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), the 2 most important of the omega 3 essential fatty acids. However once the baby is born that demand for an adequate supply of DHA and EPA does not decrease. And of course for a fetus or for a baby that supply of DHA comes from the mother, certainly in cases where the mother is breastfeeding.

There are studies now that show that breastfeeding mothers who supplement their diet with DHA have babies which, at 30 months, show higher scores on psychomotor development, have better visual development and even improve their scores on IQ assessments.

These are powerful reasons for a breastfeeding mother to increase her intake of fish oil. Breastfeeding mothers, like the rest of our population, are generally deficient in the important omega 3 essential fatty acids.

If you have a diet rich in seafood then this may not apply to you however the studies show that almost all of us do not eat enough seafood. There are various reasons for this including that it is now well recognized that much of the fish we eat is contaminated with nasty contaminants such as mercury. And fish is also very expensive.

It is possible to get omega 3 essential fats from plant based sources but these are a different form of fatty acid and this plant-based form of Omega3 fats is not nearly as beneficial to us as the omega 3 found in fish oil.

The ideal way to get more DHA in your diet is to supplement your diet with capsules of fish oil. Breastfeeding mothers can do this safe in the knowledge that the very best fish oil capsules are contamination free, and will also find that they are much more cost-effective than eating fish.

It’s now clear about the benefits of DHA for both the fetus and the growing baby. Breastfeeding mothers can comfortably increase their intake of DHA right from conception, if not before, right through pregnancy and breastfeeding and then after that, both for their own health and the health of their babies.

Remember though, not all Omega 3 capsules are the same. It is important to know how to find fish oil capsules that represent the best value and the best effectiveness.

Visit my website to find out how to make this comparison.

Do You Have Children? Fish Oil Should Feature Prominently In Their Diet.

November 22nd, 2009

For some years now science has understood the health benefits of omega 3 essential fatty acids. It is now clearly established that these benefits are equally important for the health of our children. Omega 3 fatty acids are just as important in the diet of our kids, or even more so, than in the diet of adults. And this requirement for omega 3 fats begins at conception.

Omega 3 essential fatty acids are found in fish oil. Kids, like adults, should have a minimum intake of Omega3 fats for healthy development and this is now being highlighted by a new study by Associate Professor Barbara Meyer from the University of Wollongong’s School of Health Sciences in Australia. This study has found that children in Australia are highly deficient in omega 3. Children in America will be exactly the same.

The study discovered that the average intake of Omega3 fats in children of 3 years was 47 milligrams which was described by the professor undertaking the study as “desperately low”.

The 2 essential fatty acids that are commonly found in fish oil are DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid). And it is well known that the levels of these essential fatty acids in adults in the US are way too low. This now applies to children. Omega 3 levels in our children are also way too low and there are a range of health implications from this.

A child’s requirement for omega 3 fats starts right at conception. The study noted that brain development was extremely fast during the 3rd trimester of pregnancy and that for adequate brain development an adequate level of DHA was essential. And it also noted that the first 2 years of infancy was equally important for brain development and placed an equal demand on DHA levels.

A child cannot supplement its diet own with omega 3. Children have these decisions made for them by their parents. Parents should consider increasing their own intake of fish oil as well as increasing the amount of fish oil in children’s diets because their own health and the health of their kids depends on it.

And it’s not just the brain development of our children that is negatively affected by a low intake of omega 3. Kids have a range of other developmental and health issues, all of which can benefit from increasing their intake of fish oil. Kids with inadequate levels of omega 3 have a higher risk of asthma, slower brain development, slower visual development, in some cases lower IQ and also an increased risk of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) as well as other health issues.

Clearly there are serious issues involved when considering the supplementation of omega 3 in children. This can be achieved by increasing their intake of fish however there are various issues associated with this including mercury contamination, the price of fish and the well-known dislike of fish by children.

In fact I supplement the diet of my own children with omega 3 fish oil capsules. If children are too young to take capsules it is a simple matter to cut the top off and pour the fish oil onto their breakfast. Children are not even aware that the fish oil is there.

The decisions that parents make about the diet of their children affects the healthy development of their children. Omega 3 supplementation is simple, cost-effective and should be started by the mother from the beginning of pregnancy. Omega 3 supplementation in the mother even increases the levels of DHA in her breastmilk which in turn increases the level of Omega3 in infants who are breastfeeding.

But not all Omega 3 capsules are high quality and there are important issues to understand about the freshness of the fish oil used, the amount of DHA present in the supplements and the effectiveness of the essential fats found in the capsules.

To find out which Omega 3 capsules I give to my own children and take myself visit my website.

Fish Oil And Lowering Blood Pressure. Or Is There An Omega 3 Blood Pressure Link?

November 22nd, 2009

The heart health benefits of an increased intake of the essential fatty acids known as omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil are now well established. The American Heart Association tells each of us to increase our intake of Omega3 fats up to the minimum recommended level to reduce our risk of coronary heart disease. But let’s examine whether there is a fish oil blood pressure link, or whether, if you have high blood pressure you can lower blood pressure with fish oil.

High blood pressure, otherwise known as hypertension, affects many people in our population. Particularly those who are overweight can suffer from high blood pressure and may well spend years on drugs designed to lower blood pressure. If there is an omega 3 blood pressure link this may be good news to many people.

And the good news is that there are studies showing a clear link between increasing fish oil intake and lowering blood pressure. A study of 120 people split this group into 5 subgroups and supplemented each subgroup with a combination of fish, fish oil supplements or a placebo. The conclusion was that supplementation with omega 3 essential fatty acids found in fish oil helps lower blood pressure.

There are 2 principal omega 3 essential fatty acids. These are called DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid). A further study concluded that it is primarily the DHA which is responsible for reducing hypertension.

Overweight people have higher risks of hypertension as well as coronary heart disease and a third study examined the role of omega 3 in lowering blood pressure in overweight people. This study also concluded that fish oil could help lower blood pressure for overweight people and, when combined with an appropriate weight loss regime, would help “substantially” in lowering reliance on antihypertensive drugs for those already reliant on those drugs.

There are many health reasons to increase your intake of omega 3 fatty acids and those reasons now extend to lowering blood pressure with fish oil. But even if you are not hypertensive there are other important health benefits and heart benefits which flow from a higher intake of Omega3 fats. This includes a lower risk of coronary heart disease, improvements in memory and mental acuity and a reduction of the risk of wide range of health problems related to age, and more.

The science is now clear and for this reason the American Heart Association recommends minimum intakes of omega 3 for all of us. As over 90 percent of us have dietary intakes of Omega3 fats that are inadequate we should all be taking notice of this advice, including anyone with hyperension.

So it seems there is a clear blood pressure fish oil link. If you increase your intake of Omega3 fats you will help lower high blood pressure and may also reduce any reliance on antihypertensive drugs.

So how do you increase your intake of Omega3 fats? You could eat more fish but fish is expensive and contaminated with mercury and for this reason the FDA tells us not to eat too much fish.

But it is perfectly adequate and indeed preferable, and very cost effective to take daily omega 3 supplements, and the best ones are contamination free, though there is a wide variation in the quality of the different brands.

To find out which Omega 3 capsules I choose to take and to give to my family visit my website.
